Parson's New School Constructed Environments Program

Inspired by the graffiti clad Freeman’s Alley this site is a continuation of surfaces, art, and community into an interactive and experiential space. On the cusp of Chinatown, Little Italy, and SoHo, graffiti enables this site to provide a communal language within a diverse environment. This site provides a space for local graffiti artists to engage and create as well as giving local community members an opportunity to interact with graffiti in a more structured environment and observe creation itself. Outward graffiti panels entice the passerby to explore the environment of the building more until they come across the hidden entrance that is camouflaged into the space. Slats and slides on the rooftop allow panels to be interchangeable allowing for a constantly changing visual environment as reflected in graffiti art.
